Zcash ETF Listed on NYSE Arca Amid Regulatory Paradox
The Grayscale Zcash Trust has been converted into the first US-listed spot Zcash ETF, listed on NYSE Arca as ZCSH. This move comes after the SEC approved a privacy coin ETF in the same month it proposed tighter rules for other digital assets.
With approximately $304 million in assets under management, the fund holds ZEC in transparent addresses for regulatory compliance. However, the network those coins run on is increasingly opaque, with roughly 90% of non-custodial Zcash activity now invisible to chain analytics firms.
The SEC's decision to approve the ETF while proposing stricter rules for other digital assets highlights a paradox in financial regulation. The agency targets issuers and intermediaries, not the assets themselves, under existing securities law.
