SHIB Price Rebounds on Japan Approval, But Macro Headwinds Loom
Shiba Inu (SHIB) has made significant gains after Japan's FSA greenlit Nomura-backed Laser Digital Japan, a digital assets arm of Nomura Holdings. The approval marked the first new crypto exchange license Japan issued in four years and is considered one of the most demanding compliance apparatuses in Asia.
The addition to the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association's Green List and subsequent inclusion on Rakuten Wallet's pairs laid the groundwork for this approval, which initially delivered a 25% surge on heavy volume during the week of August 17. However, SHIB stopped short of the 0.382 Fibonacci resistance at $0.0000063, retesting its price.
The market is now waiting to see whether the Japan catalyst has been priced in and rotated out, with macro headwinds building from Jackson Hole, where Fed Chair Kevin Walsh is expected on the podium. A hawkish surprise on the core PCE print would trigger a broad crypto unwind, with Bitcoin stalling just under $79K.
Technical indicators are mixed, but leaning bearish in the short term, with RSI at 60.69 and Bollinger Band %B at 0.78. The MACD histogram is flat at zero, indicating a standoff between buyers and sellers. Stochastics are diverging upward from oversold, but haven't crossed into a clean bullish signal yet.
