Zcash Holders Choose Faster Blocks Over Halving Schedule Change
Zcash token holders have voted overwhelmingly in favor of reducing the network's target block time to 25 seconds, while keeping its existing halving schedule intact. This decision was made through a poll on the next major upgrade, which saw nearly 99% of ZEC holders support cutting the block time from 75 seconds. The vote also included support for preserving the scheduled daily issuance and halvings.
The faster-block proposal aims to reduce the expected wait for a transaction's first confirmation, according to its proponents. However, it would also result in a decrease in the amount of new ZEC issued per block, which would remain unchanged due to the preserved halving schedule.
