Zcash Holders Overwhelmingly Favor Preserving Halvings in NU7 Upgrade
Zcash holders have spoken out on their preferences for the next network upgrade, NU7. In an advisory poll that drew between 2.399 million and 2.404 million ZEC participants, voters overwhelmingly favored preserving scheduled halvings and waiting until February 2031 to begin returning ZEC collected by the Network Sustainability Mechanism to future block rewards.
The results also showed strong support for disabling Sprout-era v4 transactions at NU7 activation, cutting target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, and shipping NU7 without any applicable feature that misses a Sept. 30 implementation deadline.
However, the Zcash Community Advisory Panel, which provides community input to the Zcash Foundation, drew a more nuanced picture. A community-authored recap characterized ZCAP as narrowly favoring smoother issuance and other panels collectively as preferring recycled issuance to begin as soon as possible.
The poll results give implementers a strong signal from participating economic stakeholders but do not activate any changes or guarantee that every preferred feature will ship.
