Zcash Holders Overwhelmingly Support Faster Transactions and Halving Mechanism
Zcash holders have overwhelmingly voted to speed up transaction times and retain a Bitcoin-style halving mechanism as part of its upcoming network upgrade, NU7. Over 2.4 million ZEC ($1,160.20 · Live) participated in the governance vote, representing roughly two-thirds of the approximately 36 million eligible ZEC.
According to the results, nearly 100% of participating ZEC holders supported reducing block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, while around 98.9% backed retaining a halving mechanism similar to Bitcoin's. Approximately 96.6% of participants also voted in favor of delaying the re-issuance of network sustainability fees until February 2031.
The voting period was limited to holders of ZEC in the Ironwood privacy pool, with votes encrypted and split into 16 parts to ensure anonymity. The results will not directly change the network but will inform the implementation of new features as part of NU7.
