Zcash Integrates Tachyon Code for Faster Shielded Transactions
The Zcash development team has taken a significant step towards making shielded transactions faster. On September 28, 2026, they released a Rust crate called Udon and started integrating Project Tachyon's recursive proof code into Zakura Common.
Tachyon is led by cryptographer Sean Bowe and focuses on building proof-carrying data architecture for Zcash. This technique bundles a validity proof alongside each piece of data moving through a system, allowing validators to verify correctness incrementally.
The Udon crate enhances the cryptographic stack that powers Zcash full nodes, specifically tuning it for the recursive proving requirements introduced by Tachyon. The integration targets more than 50,000 shielded transactions per second.
Zakura Common has a head start on this integration, launching version 1.0 on July 15, 2026, and achieving significant performance improvements, including transaction construction times under 200 milliseconds and mobile proof generation over 14 times faster.
