Zcash (ZEC) climbed nearly 12% in the past day after developers finalized the mainnet activation block for the NU7 upgrade, set for early November. The privacy-focused cryptocurrency was trading around $1,270 on Wednesday, according to CoinGecko.
The rally followed a GitHub proposal by Zcash developer Sean Bowe, who set the activation at block 3,543,405, expected around November 5. Bowe confirmed the height was agreed upon in a ZIP editor meeting, though the team still needs to finalize the upgrade specifications.
NU7 aims to reduce Zcash’s target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, speeding up transaction confirmations. The upgrade has been in testing since early October, with the Zakura NU7 dashboard listing the pending mainnet activation.
The Zcash Foundation’s readiness tracker shows six of 12 tasks completed, with remaining work addressing Zebra node synchronization issues and mainnet preparations. However, developers have not confirmed whether these outstanding issues could impact the planned activation date.
