Zcash Leaves Bitcoin in the Dust as Shielded Activity Hits Four-Year High
Zcash is gaining attention as it outperforms Bitcoin in price, with its latest surge pushing above $1,600. This comes amidst a four-year high in shielded activity and increased institutional access.
The divergence between Zcash's performance and Bitcoin's has drawn focus to Zcash's unique features, such as its optional shielded transactions that use zero-knowledge proofs to hide transaction details. With nearly 5 million ZEC held in shielded pools, representing roughly 23% of the circulating supply, users are increasingly opting for privacy.
The recent rally has also seen a sharp increase in trading activity and several developments expanding access to the asset, including a physically backed ETP launched by 21Shares on Europe's Euronext Paris and Amsterdam. Furthermore, Zcash is preparing for its NU7 upgrade, which will reduce target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, improving transaction confirmation times.
While Bitcoin remains the largest cryptocurrency with deeper liquidity and a larger user base, Zcash's recent performance highlights the growing importance of privacy in the market narrative. With shielded activity at a four-year high and institutional access expanding, the next question is whether this growth can continue after the current price surge cools.
