Zcash Lobbying Group Files in Washington with $750,000 Grant
Recent developments in the world of cryptocurrency have seen the emergence of a new lobbying group focused on promoting the interests of Zcash, a privacy-oriented cryptocurrency. Pretty Good Policy for Zcash (PGPZ), a Zcash-focused advocacy group, has filed to lobby in Washington, with the aim of shaping US policy on digital assets. The group, which was launched in June this year, has already secured a $750,000 grant from the Zcash Community Grants to fund its first year of work. PGPZ's executive director, Divij Pandya, is the sole lobbyist listed in the group's registration, which cites the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and two digital asset tax proposals as among its current and anticipated lobbying issues. The group's founder and chief policy and regulatory officer, Paul Brigner, has stated that the goal is to 'make sure Zcash has serious, organized, and credible policy engagement in Washington.'
Policymakers are making decisions that will affect whether privacy-preserving digital cash can exist, be used lawfully, and serve the public interest, according to Brigner. He emphasized that PGPZ is about ensuring Zcash is understood, represented, and defended in these conversations. The group's efforts mark an escalation of the Zcash community's engagement in Washington policy-making, following a congressional briefing on encryption technologies hosted by the group in 2023.
