Zcash Mining Rises Above Bitcoin Revenue per MWh

BTC ZEC

Zcash mining has surpassed Bitcoin in revenue per megawatt-hour (MWh), generating $727, according to analysis from TheEnergyMag. This figure is more than four times that of Bitcoin's Antminer S23 Pro, which generates approximately $162 per MWh.

The high price of ZEC, currently trading in the $800 to $890 range, is driving this gap. The coin has seen a significant rebound in recent months, with a 68.7% jump in one week alone.

The hardware responsible for this profit is Bitmain's Z15 Pro ASIC, designed specifically for Equihash algorithm used by Zcash's proof-of-work network.

Even if ZEC's price were to drop by 50%, revenue per MWh would still be above Bitcoin's current rate. However, a return to 2024-era prices would make the Z15 Pro an expensive investment.
