Zcash NU7 Upgrade Cuts Block Time to 25 Seconds on Testnet
Zcash has launched its NU7 upgrade on the public testnet, introducing a significant change to the network's block time. The upgrade cuts the targeted time between blocks from 75 seconds to just 25 seconds. This reduction could benefit merchants and exchanges by speeding up transaction processing. The testnet uses valueless coins for testing purposes, and both major Zcash node programs now support the upgrade.
NU7 also includes modifications to fee distribution and disables Sprout transactions. Developers plan to review the test results on October 20, aiming for a mainnet activation on November 5. However, no specific activation block has been set yet. The upgrade is designed to improve the overall efficiency and functionality of the Zcash network.
