Zcash NU7 Upgrade Shortens Block Times on Testnet
Zcash has rolled out its NU7 upgrade on the public testnet, a move aimed at improving network efficiency. The upgrade shortens the time between transaction blocks from 75 to 25 seconds, potentially cutting wait times for merchants and exchanges. Both major Zcash node programs now support the testnet, which uses valueless coins for experimentation.
The NU7 upgrade also includes changes to fee distribution and disables Sprout transactions. Developers will evaluate the test results on October 20, with a target date for mainnet activation set for November 5. However, no specific activation block has been determined yet.
