Zcash Policy Group Launches Lobbying Effort on Key Crypto Bills
The Zcash Policy Group (PGPZ) has officially registered to lobby Congress on three key digital asset bills, backed by a $750,000 grant from the Zcash ecosystem’s community grants program. The group aims to shape privacy laws and influence regulations that could impact everyday users’ financial anonymity. The grant funds will cover staff salaries, lobbying expenses, and policy dinners, with the first quarterly report due on January 20, 2027.
PGPZ’s lobbying registration, effective October 1, 2026, lists executive director Divij Pandya as the sole lobbyist. The group will focus on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (H.R. 3633) and two digital asset tax bills. The registration does not disclose specific lobbying positions or expenses, which will be detailed in future reports.
The $750,000 grant was approved by the Zcash Community Grants committee, with founder Paul Brigner recusing himself from the decision. The funds will be allocated to operating costs, legal work, events, and travel, including congressional fly-ins. PGPZ has also outlined its plans to respond to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s proposed Regulation Crypto Assets rule, seeking community feedback.
PGPZ’s board includes notable figures such as Michele Korver from a16z crypto and J.W. Verret from George Mason University. The group operates independently, with a disclaimer clarifying its lack of affiliation with the Zcash Foundation. Pandya emphasized that PGPZ’s lobbying efforts are solely for the Zcash ecosystem.
