Zcash Pool Activated on THORChain After Months-Long Development Effort
THORChain has activated support for its Zcash liquidity pool after months of technical work. The deployment was confirmed on October 2, following a comprehensive node rotation that saw every active validator now track the Zcash blockchain.
While trading functionality remains offline, THORChain indicated it represents the immediate next milestone in implementing user-facing trades. Pool depth is currently limited during these initial stages, and users are cautioned to exercise care when interacting with the newly deployed pool.
The integration of ZEC required significant development efforts, including UTXO management, RPC implementation, and oracle integration for ZEC pricing. A March 4 protocol enhancement introduced chain-specific UTXO management and RPC functionality tailored for ZEC, while subsequent patches resolved complications with ZEC network fee calculations and signing discrepancies.
The pool activation coincides with heightened scrutiny of THORChain's involvement in processing compromised assets, following the Bitget security breach that saw an estimated $387.5 million transferred to attacker wallets, including those linked to Zcash transactions.
