Zcash Price Squeeze Forces Traders out of Leveraged Positions
Zcash's price surge caught traders betting against its increase off guard, forcing them out of leveraged positions and resulting in $13.24 million in liquidations over the past 24 hours.
The token traded as high as $1,051 on September 4, building on a sharp surge from a low of $805 on September 3, with its latest price increase surpassing the $1,000 mark for the first time since 2018.
About $11.26 million of these liquidations came from shorts and $1.98 million from longs, according to CoinGlass data, yielding a 562% imbalance between longs and shorts.
Zcash's rally dates back to October 2025, coming out of a range that had been in place since June 2022, with the token recovering from a low of $7.7 in April 2025 before accelerating in August 2026 and gaining 105% in the last 30 days.
The price growth is attributed to both technical and institutional developments, including Grayscale's spot Zcash ETF trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH and Digital Currency Group's non-binding talks with a subsidiary to purchase 200,000 ZEC.
