Zcash Price Surge Raises Questions About Authenticity
Zcash's recent price surge has left many wondering if it's more than just hype. According to Bitget, ZEC's social volume hit a one-month high on September 17th, but what's interesting is that most of this buzz came from X, with mentions increasing by 6.8x their usual pace.
This spike in X activity led to the platform's share of all ZEC chatter rising from 59% to 85% in a single day. However, many of these X posts seem suspiciously uniform and may have been orchestrated, rather than organic.
The price of ZEC still managed to surge, helped by a recent vote among coin holders on the NU7 upgrade. The turnout was impressive at 66%, but unfortunately, we don't know who voted or how much they voted for.
The results were largely in favor of keeping Bitcoin-style halvings, faster blocks, and eliminating the legacy Sprout pool. However, there was a split on when miner fee-recycling should kick in, with coin holders choosing February 2031 over an ASAP start as suggested by advisory panels.
Grayscale's investment thesis on ZEC is centered around its potential to benefit from growing concerns about privacy and anonymity in the digital age. While some may view this surge as a buying opportunity, others might see it as a sign of overbought markets.
