Zcash Price Surges 19% on NU7 Upgrade and Ledger Integration
The price of Zcash (ZEC) surged by nearly 19% over the last 17 hours due to two key factors: the successful Network Upgrade 7 (NU7) vote and the integration of Zcash into Ledger hardware wallets.
The NU7 vote saw a near-unanimous approval from ZEC holders, with 2.4 million out of 3.6 million eligible tokens participating in the vote. The majority supported reducing the target block time to 25 seconds while preserving the existing halving schedule and delaying NSM reissuance until 2031.
The vote is seen as a 'best of both worlds' outcome, improving speed without sacrificing scarcity or introducing inflationary pressures. The integration with Ledger allows users to self-custody ZEC in the latest shielded pool on the hardware wallet, further enhancing Zcash's privacy narrative.
The price surge occurred despite a risk-off macro day, where most assets fell after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates and the CLARITY Act vote failed. ZEC stood out as an outlier, showing exceptional relative strength and triggering technical breakouts, derivatives positioning adjustments, and narrative-driven rotation into the privacy-coin leader.
