Zcash Rises Amid Concerns Over Bitcoin's 'Ossification'
Zcash's recent surge in popularity is partly attributed to concerns that Bitcoin has become too rigid and resistant to changes, according to StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson. The term 'ossification' describes a network becoming increasingly difficult to modify due to its established code, governance processes, and user base.
Ben-Sasson linked part of the market's renewed interest in Zcash (ZEC) to fears that Bitcoin has become too ossified. He emphasized that this concern is just one factor contributing to Zcash's rise, rather than the sole explanation.
Zcash and Bitcoin share a technical history, as Ben-Sasson was involved in the development of the Zerocash protocol, which became the foundation for Zcash. The work explored the use of zero-knowledge proofs to enable transactions with greater privacy while maintaining cryptographic verification.
