Zcash Surges 20% After Paradigm Co-Founder Discloses Firm's Holdings
Zcash surged by roughly 20% in the past day after Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang disclosed that his firm is both an investor and a holder of ZEC. This disclosure reframed Zcash's recent performance through the lens of long-term ecosystem support rather than short-term trading momentum.
The move follows a broader month-long rally, where Zcash has vastly outpaced Bitcoin, according to CoinGecko price data. Over 30 days, ZEC has increased by about 160%, compared with Bitcoin's 18.2% over the same period.
Zcash is designed to enable shielded transactions using zero-knowledge proofs, making it difficult to trace addresses and amounts in normal transaction history. Paradigm's involvement in the ecosystem has been public since earlier this year, when ZODL announced a seed round of more than $25 million that included Paradigm.
Huang emphasized the importance of sustained funding for development, highlighting governance questions and the need to combine Zcash coin voting with other forms of governance to reduce unpredictability for the network when ZEC is viewed as a monetary asset.
