Zcash Surges 217%, But Can It Sustain Its Momentum?
Zcash (CRYPTO: ZEC) has been on a tear this year, surging 217% in value. This performance is all the more impressive when compared to Bitcoin's (CRYPTO: BTC) own gains of 40% from its summer lows.
While some investors are flocking to Zcash due to its recent price action, there are concerns about the long-term prospects for this cryptocurrency. A decade-long chart shows that Zcash has been flatlining for much of its existence, with significant price drops from its launch in October 2016 and all-time high of $5,942.
The Grayscale launched a spot Zcash ETF at the end of August, which has attracted over $500 million from investors. Additionally, Zcash's popularity as a 'privacy coin' is on the rise due to growing demand for anonymous online transactions.
However, experts warn that short-term momentum traders may be tempted to buy into Zcash, but long-term investors should exercise caution. As The Motley Fool analyst team notes, privacy coins were never intended to be long-term investments and have raised regulatory questions.
