Zcash Surges After Prominent Trader Exits $36M Short Position
Zcash has seen a significant surge in price after a prominent trader exited a $36 million short position, leaving behind bearish pressure and creating additional demand for the cryptocurrency. The trader, Garrett Jin, initially entered the trade when ZEC was trading at around $656 and exited it at a high point of $1,530, resulting in substantial losses.
The unwind of this short squeeze has removed significant bearish momentum from ZEC's position, but the derivatives markets have rapidly built up extreme levels of leverage. Open Interest (OI) rose to approximately $3.3 billion around September 19th before dropping back down to $2.9 billion, representing extremely high levels of positioning.
The liquidation heatmap shows heavy liquidation clusters concentrated at the $1,550 and $1,580 price levels, areas where large groups of investors may be squeezed out as they attempt to cover their losses if buyers regain control. Below the current price near $1,480, additional liquidity is concentrated around $1,450 and $1,420, creating downside liquidation pockets.
