Zcash Surges on ETF Listing and Bitcoin Comparison
Zcash has seen significant price gains since our first assessment in July, rising from $469.57 to its current price of $821.79, a gain of roughly 75%. The reasons behind this rally are specific and not mystical.
The introduction of the Zcash ETF, which will be listed on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH, is one reason for the price increase. Grayscale filed to convert its Zcash Trust into a spot exchange-traded product with an August 21 filing indicating shares were anticipated to begin trading on or around August 25.
Another factor contributing to Zcash's rise is the comparison with Bitcoin. The asset inherited Bitcoin's architecture and has been argued to have a similar emission discipline, but with added privacy features. This argument has gained traction in recent months, with the price ratio between ZEC and BTC narrowing from 132:1 to 96:1.
The mechanism driving the price increase is primarily leverage, with futures volume running at roughly $9.5 billion against just over $1 billion in spot trading. This nine-to-one ratio is a characteristic of leveraged derivatives markets rather than retail buying and holding.
