Zcash Surges to 8-Year High as Analyst Warns of Potential Crash

Zcash (ZEC) has exploded to an 8-year high after its price surged by nearly 65% in the past week, outperforming other top cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. The surge was largely driven by a catalyst specific to ZEC, as Grayscale revealed discussions with Digital Currency Group's subsidiary over a contribution of roughly 200,000 ZEC to its Zcash Trust.

The product is set to be converted into an ETF, launching on August 25. This news has sent ZEC's price briefly jumping to $880, the highest mark since January 2018. It currently trades at around $848, with a market capitalization of over $14 billion.

However, not everyone is optimistic about ZEC's future. Crypto with Harris ₿ argued that ZEC's 'real value' lies below $500, citing its critical vulnerability earlier this year and the massive price collapse it triggered. They also noted that the current price is well above daily averages and the upper Bollinger Band, indicating an extremely stretched move.

Another bearish sign is the recent exchange net flow, where inflows have far outpaced outflows, indicating investors are flocking to centralized platforms and increasing immediate selling pressure.
