Zcash (ZEC) Rides NU7 Governance Vote to 3.07% Intraday Gain
Zcash (ZEC) experienced a significant surge of 3.07% over the last two hours, driven by fresh upgrade news and momentum in an already crowded short market.
The catalyst for this move was the NU7 governance vote, which saw Zcash holders overwhelmingly approve the network upgrade with roughly 2.4 million ZEC participating out of about 3.6 million eligible.
The vote backed cutting block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, continuing Bitcoin-style halvings instead of a smoother emission curve, and deferring reissuance of fees accumulated by the Network Sustainability Mechanism until 2031.
This positive news landed on top of an already bullish narrative, with Zcash being the standout leader among privacy coins. Recent coverage notes that the combined market cap of the sector has risen roughly 213% since Bitcoin's October 2025 peak, with ZEC responsible for most of that growth and now representing about 62% of the sector's value.
Derivatives positioning and technical commentary indicate crowded shorts and bullish chart structures, suggesting that relatively small new demand likely cascaded into further short covering and breakout continuation, producing the intraday jump.
