Zcash cofounder Eli Ben-Sasson has identified two features that may become baseline requirements for cryptocurrency projects over the next five years: privacy and post-quantum security.

Ben-Sasson's view comes as developers work to protect against quantum threats and Zcash experiences renewed demand for shielded transactions, which allow users to hide transaction details while preserving cryptographic verification.

The NU7 upgrade on the Zcash network aims to improve performance by reducing target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, among other changes. Meanwhile, StarkWare has demonstrated a quantum-safe Bitcoin transaction on mainnet using hash-based protection.
