Zcash's Regulatory Risks Threaten $1,000 Price Cushion
Zcash, a cryptocurrency that's seen a remarkable 1,077% gain over the past year, is still trading near its current price of $1,315, despite a 14% drop over the past week. According to ChatGPT, there's a 78% chance that Zcash can maintain a price above $1,000 through the end of October 2026. This isn't as daunting as it may sound, as Zcash could fall about 24% from its current price and still finish October above $1,000.
ChatGPT suggests three potential price ranges for October: a bullish scenario with prices rising to between $1,700 and $2,000, exceeding the September high of about $1,693; a bearish scenario with prices dipping to between $850 and $1,100; and a severe sell-off scenario with Zcash dropping to between $700 and $850.
Despite these variations, ChatGPT's central projection remains well above $1,000, forecasting a close around $1,480 by the end of October and a year-end price of about $1,850. However, it also expects a low of approximately $880 at some point before December 31.
The growth of the Zcash exchange-traded product (ETP) has mostly come from Zcash's rising price rather than new investor inflows, meaning a price drop could quickly reduce the fund's size, even if investors don't sell their shares. This indicates that the fund's growth doesn't necessarily reflect steady demand.
The larger concern for Zcash lies with regulators, as ChatGPT notes that a regulatory action could cause Zcash's price to drop by 30% to 40%, with a central estimate of around 35%. This would bring its price down to about $800 to $930, which is below $1,000.
