ZEC Price Soars on Ironwood Hard Fork and Secure Migration
A $22 million profit from one trade is not bad for an asset that most investors would have abandoned during its ugly years. This is the story of a Zcash (ZEC) investor who bought 22,840 ZEC for $1.1 million between 2022 and 2024, held through volatility, and watched their investment grow to approximately $23 million by today.
The bigger story may be happening beneath the price chart. According to shielded supply data from Zcash's Orchard and Ironwood pools, significant changes occurred in 2026. The Orchard pool peaked at roughly 4.5 million ZEC in early June before steadily declining, while the Sapling pool remained above 500,000 ZEC, and the Sprout pool exceeded 20,000 ZEC.
By late July, much of the Orchard supply had shifted into the new Ironwood pool. By early September, Orchard had fallen to approximately 455,000 ZEC, while Ironwood had climbed to 3.86 million ZEC from 132,930 ZEC on July 28. The supply migration followed the Ironwood hard fork, which resolved a critical security bug affecting Zcash's Orchard pool in July 2026.
The upgrade used a secure turnstile migration, allowing the affected supply to move without compromising the token's total supply. This distinction matters because it confirmed that the supply remained uncompromised, helping restore confidence in the network and supporting the subsequent ZEC price rally.
