ZetaChain Migrates to Solana Ecosystem, Ditches Own Layer-1 Blockchain
ZetaChain is planning to shut down its own layer-1 blockchain and migrate to the Solana ecosystem. The company has submitted a governance proposal to convert its ZETA token into a native Solana SPL token.
The proposal, which is currently being voted on by ZETA holders, would see existing ZETA tokens converted one-for-one into a Solana-based token with no additional issuance. The token's name, ticker, and total supply would remain unchanged.
ZetaChain cited Solana's fast processing speed and low costs as reasons for the move, stating that AI agents need fast, inexpensive transactions to pull data in real-time and pay for services. According to ZetaChain, Solana's transaction finality is about 0.4 seconds and its median transaction fee is about $0.001.
The company plans to reorganize its role around the AI ecosystem, with users depositing ZETA to receive credits for Anuma's AI services. This structure would be extended to other Solana-based AI applications and agents, using ZETA as a shared access token.
