Zuckerberg's AI Manifesto Fails to Mention Cryptocurrency
Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg has released a 6,500-word manifesto on artificial intelligence (AI), envisioning a future where personal super-intelligence is the norm. The document highlights the importance of decentralization and accessibility in AI development, but surprisingly omits any mention of cryptocurrency or blockchain technology.
Zuckerberg's manifesto discusses the need for decentralized AI to prevent a single tech giant from dominating the field, yet it fails to acknowledge the potential role that cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) could play in this vision. Cryptocurrencies are built on open-source and decentralized principles, aiming to free financial transactions from intermediaries.
As the article points out, many of the same issues faced by AI companies today, such as energy consumption, were also concerns for early blockchain and cryptocurrency projects like Bitcoin mining. Prominent figures in Silicon Valley, including Jack Dorsey and Tim Draper, have long supported the idea that cryptocurrencies can empower individuals and facilitate peer-to-peer transactions.
Despite this omission, experts like Cathie Wood of Ark Invest highlight the growing intersection between AI and crypto, where blockchain networks could host decentralized AI projects. Coinbase Global CEO Brian Armstrong even coined the term 'agentic finance' to describe a future where AI agents transact directly without human oversight.
