The Bank of Canada has unveiled its new $20 bill, featuring King Charles III as the fourth monarch to appear on a Canadian banknote. The design process cost $6 million and each note will have an additional $0.05 added to print due to enhanced security features, bringing the total cost to $0.35 per bill.

Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem stated that 'bank note security is critical for Canadian consumers and businesses and for the integrity of our currency system.' The new note includes a first-of-its-kind security strip with 3D elements, as well as dark bands on a poppy design that appear to spin.

The central bank plans to conduct outreach in the coming months to ensure retailers and law enforcement are aware of the changes. Advance images of the new notes are being provided to vendors and ATMs to facilitate a smooth transition.
