Alice Weidel, leader of Germany's far-right party AfD, has proposed ending the Schengen Agreement and abolishing the euro if her party were to govern. She cited the recent migration crisis in Ceuta as a reason for this proposal.

In an interview with ZDF public television, Weidel stated that she would withdraw from Schengen to prevent episodes like the one in Ceuta. She claimed that the current government has allowed open borders and has failed to control national borders effectively.

Weidel blamed Chancellor Friedrich Merz's conservative government for not exercising effective control over national borders and criticized the granting of citizenship to migrants who should leave the country. She promised to return all Syrians, estimated at about 1.3 million, to their home country.

Regarding economic policies, Weidel proposed eliminating the euro, considering it an unstable and soft currency. She argued that Germany was significantly better before the introduction of the single currency and has since experienced widespread impoverishment of the working population.
