The African Export-Import Bank is preparing to launch a $1 billion syndicated loan, which may include an offshore yuan tranche. This would mark the bank's first venture into the offshore renminbi market, reflecting the deepening trade ties between China and Africa.
The three-year loan will consist of both US dollar and offshore yuan portions, with the exact sizes to be determined based on the syndication process. Bank of China and Standard Chartered Bank are serving as global coordinators for this facility.
This move comes as China-Africa trade relations continue to strengthen, with financial institutions exploring new ways to facilitate cross-border transactions. The inclusion of an offshore yuan tranche highlights the growing role of the Chinese currency in international trade and finance.
