AI Correction Looms Over New Zealand's Household Wealth
New Zealand's household wealth is not entirely immune to the risks of a global AI correction, despite its high property values and net financial assets.
The country ranked eighth globally in net financial assets per capita at €127,550 in 2025, but its reliance on real estate means it is still exposed to market movements. Household debt ratios stood at 72.1% of GDP at the end of 2025, higher than the global average.
The Allianz Research report suggests that a sharp correction in AI-linked global equities would have significant consequences for New Zealand's economy, transmitting through trade channels and business confidence.
