AI Threats Financial Stability, Warns Bank of England's Andrew Bailey
Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, has sounded the alarm on the growing threat of artificial intelligence to financial stability. He warned that AI poses an increasingly significant risk to the financial system unless humans retain control over these powerful technologies.
Bailey called for rigorous testing of advanced AI systems before introducing new regulations. He emphasized that understanding vulnerabilities and establishing effective safeguards must take priority over regulation.
The rapid development of frontier AI, which can draw on vast amounts of human knowledge and improve its performance using its own outputs, is creating significant challenges for governments, regulators, and financial institutions, Bailey noted.
