Air New Zealand's Skynest Concept Wins Global Recognition for Lie-Flat Sleep Pods

Air New Zealand has been recognized for its innovative Skynest concept, which allows Economy and Premium Economy customers to lie flat and sleep during long-haul flights.

Skynest was selected as one of only 25 winners from over 200 submissions globally and is set to debut on Air New Zealand's new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in December 2026, initially available on services between Auckland and New York.

The world-first lie-flat sleep pods will feature six individual pods arranged in a bunk-style layout, located between Economy and Premium Economy cabins. Each pod includes a full-length mattress, fresh bedding, privacy curtain, ambient lighting, personal stowage, and charging outlets.

Air New Zealand Chief Customer Officer Jeremy O'Brien says the airline is 'very proud' to be recognized for Skynest, describing it as 'a uniquely New Zealand way to solve a problem' that has been years in the making.
