Albanian Home Loans See Stable Interest Rates Amid Eased Lending Standards
The Albanian housing market is heavily reliant on mortgages, as many families seek to address their housing needs. The Bank of Albania has released a report detailing interest rates for new loans in lek and euro-denominated loans.
The data shows that the interest rate on new loans in lek stood at 8.9%, while the rate on euro-denominated loans was 7.9%. However, interest rates for home purchase loans have been lower in the domestic currency.
A notable trend observed over the past two years is the increase in interest rates on euro-denominated consumer loans. In contrast, interest rates on home purchase loans have remained relatively stable, standing at 3.8% in lek and 5.0% in euros at the end of the period.
The central bank reports that banks eased lending standards and increased approval rates for loans to individuals in the second quarter of the year. This easing was attributed to increased competition within the banking system and a greater willingness to take on risk.
