Alberta Designates Pacific Link Oil Pipeline Project as National Interest
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced today that the proposed oil pipeline project, Pacific Link, has been designated as a 'project of national interest' under the Building Canada Act. This move will strengthen Canada's economy, enhance energy security, and connect Canadian energy to growing global markets.
The listing sends a clear message: Canada is ready to build again. It will create up to 140,000 jobs at its peak, mostly in Alberta and British Columbia, with ongoing production supporting an additional 50,000 jobs per year for Albertans and Canadians.
Alberta's government expects to collect over $265 billion in additional royalties from the increased oil production during the pipeline's operation. The project will also significantly grow Canada's GDP, generating more than $20 billion per year when operational.
