Alberta Economy Expected to Outperform with 2.7% Growth Rate
Alberta's economy is expected to outperform other provinces in Canada due to its strong oil production, according to ATB's Quarterly Economic Outlook. The province's real GDP growth rate has been revised up to 2.7% this year from 1.6% previously forecasted.
The surge in oil prices is not the primary driver of Alberta's economic growth, but rather the fact that the economy has outperformed expectations in late 2025 and early 2026, particularly in the labour market.
While the energy sector is expected to drive a robust increase in nominal GDP, producers will remain cautious with capital spending due to pipeline constraints and uncertainty about the duration of the price spike.
