A new committee in Alberta is focused on understanding the impacts of U.S. and Canadian tariffs on local families and businesses.

The committee, co-chaired by Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Joseph Schow and Finance Minister Jason Nixon, aims to make strategic decisions that protect Albertans from trade uncertainty caused by recent tariff announcements.

Last week, Premier Danielle Smith announced the formation of the provincial tariff cabinet committee in response to new U.S. tariffs targeting Canadian businesses, which include $27.6 billion worth of imports such as steel and dairy products.

The Government of Canada has also imposed retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods, effective September 8, with covered products including agricultural equipment and electronics.
