Albo's Card Conundrum Exposed
A video of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has resurfaced, showing him trying to appeal to younger Australians in a social media post. The cringeworthy footage shows Albanese standing in a laneway with graffiti behind him, boasting about how people will save money when they use their cards 'every time you tap'. He said that businesses can't charge extra for paying by card, whether in person or online.
Opposition Leader Angus Taylor responded to the video, saying Albanese was trying to pretend a cost disappears simply because it's not visible on the receipt. Taylor explained that a cafe still has to pay to process customers' cards, and if that cost isn't on the receipt, it must be absorbed or built into the price.
The tax office has also announced that it will no longer accept payments by credit card from November 30, which could hit small businesses hard. The Opposition and One Nation have called for this decision to be reversed, saying it's another example of the Government not understanding small businesses and imposing unnecessary costs on them.
The Reserve Bank of Australia recently increased the cash rate to a 15-year high of 4.6 percent, with another increase expected next month. House prices have continued to plummet, leaving recent buyers at risk of being in negative equity, where they owe their bank more than their home is worth.
