Almost Ten Million Europeans Share Opinions on New Euro Banknotes

The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced that almost ten million people participated in its survey on new euro banknotes. The survey, which ran from July 23 to September 21, 2026, gathered opinions on ten design proposals based on the themes 'European culture' and 'Rivers and birds'.

According to ECB President Christine Lagarde, the strong participation shows Europeans' interest in their future banknotes. The survey results will inform the Governing Council's decision on the final design concept for the new euro banknotes.

The survey achieved a response rate of 2.6% of the euro area population, with two-thirds of responses coming from people under the age of 35. To ensure accuracy, data will be analyzed using standard statistical methods.

The ECB is not publishing the results for individual design proposals at this stage but will release a detailed report after the Governing Council's decision on the concept.
