Amazon Prepares First Sterling Bond Issue for AI Fundraising
Amazon is venturing into new financial waters by issuing its first British pound bond to fund its artificial intelligence expansion.
The technology giant has hired banks to prepare for the sterling bond issue, which will feature debt securities maturing in three, six, 12, and 19 years.
The deal could take place as early as September 9, but market conditions will ultimately determine if it happens.
Amazon's decision is part of a broader funding diversification strategy, driven by the massive costs of developing AI. Large cloud technology companies are increasingly tapping international debt markets to raise funds in various currencies, including euros, Swiss francs, and Japanese yen.
