Asian Stocks Caught Between Tech Selloff and Iran Optimism

Asian stocks traded mixed on Wednesday as investors weighed conflicting forces, including a technology-led selloff and a strengthening yen.

The selloff in AI-related stocks continued to ripple through Asian markets, with concerns that companies tied to artificial intelligence have become overvalued. The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.2% on Tuesday, dragging down tech-heavy indices in Asia, including Japan's Nikkei 225 and South Korea's market.

The yen strengthened to its highest level in over a month against the dollar, trading around 151 yen per dollar, which weighed on Japanese exporters such as Toyota Motor and Sony Group. Optimism that tensions between Iran and the West may be cooling provided some support for risk assets, however, with reports suggesting diplomatic channels remain open and the likelihood of a broader conflict has diminished.
