ASX 200 Loses Gains Amid Rising Inflation Concerns
The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) 200 index saw its early gains evaporate on Friday, despite a strong lead from Wall Street the night before.
The S&P/ASX 200 had climbed solidly in early trade after a positive session for US stocks, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, Nasdaq Composite Index, and S&P 500 Index all rising overnight.
However, attention shifted back to domestic interest rates as Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) Governor Michele Bullock spoke before a parliamentary committee about emerging inflation risks tied to oil prices and the global AI investment boom.
Bullock noted that some of the inflation pressures the RBA had warned about were now starting to emerge, citing higher oil prices and the AI investment boom as two areas putting more pressure on prices.
