The Australian stock market experienced a decline on Wednesday, with the S&P/ASX 200 dropping to its lowest level in 20 days at 8,978.40. Despite the better-than-expected June quarter GDP growth of 0.4%, which was confirmed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics data released earlier that day, the market showed a disconnect between improving domestic fundamentals and cautious market sentiment.

The Index fell 88.30 points (0.97%) to its weakest level in 20 days, with seven out of eleven sectors finishing in the red. The Information Technology sector led losses, declining by 3.35%, followed closely by Materials, which dropped 3.08%. However, Consumer Staples bucked the trend, rising 0.81% to lead the day's gainers.

Globally, a stronger U.S. dollar and rising oil prices amid renewed U.S.-Iran tensions added headwinds to the market. Commodity prices, including gold, silver, and copper, also experienced softness. Despite this, GrainCorp Limited (ASX:GNC) surged 11.02% to pace gainers.

Technically, the S&P/ASX 200 index continues to hold above key support near 8,920.50, which remains crucial for maintaining a bullish bias. A sustained hold above this level could support a recovery towards recent highs, while a decisive break below 8,920.50 would weaken the technical setup and increase downside risk.
