The Swiss economy has reported its fastest growth rate in nearly five years, expanding by 1.5% in the second quarter of 2026.

This marks a significant improvement from the first three months of the year, which saw a growth rate of just 0.5%. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) attributed this acceleration to the booming chemical and pharmaceuticals sector, which grew by an impressive 10.5%.

Economists are impressed by the resilience of the Swiss economy despite challenging conditions such as sharply rising oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties. According to VP Bank analyst Thomas Gitzel, European industry is showing a remarkable recovery, with Germany - traditionally Switzerland's biggest export market - doing better than expected.
