Au Pay App Integrates Crypto Wallet in Japan with Non-Custodial Model
The au PAY app in Japan has launched a crypto wallet called αU wallet, allowing users to exchange Ponta Points for WBTC, ETH, and JPYC.
The wallet uses a non-custodial model, where users manage their own private keys and access is limited to those who have completed identity verification through au PAY.
Ponta Points can be exchanged for up to 300 units per month, with no crypto asset account required. Purchases in Japanese yen are also available via Coincheck's OnRamp service.
The wallet is operated by au Coincheck Digital Assets, a joint venture between KDDI, au Financial Holdings, and Coincheck. The company aims to lower the psychological barrier to crypto adoption by integrating payments and crypto assets into a single app.
