AUD Falls After RBA Hike Despite Hawkish Stance
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) raised interest rates by 25 basis points in its latest move to combat inflation, but this decision had an unexpected outcome. The Australian dollar actually fell against the US dollar after the rate hike, which has left many market analysts scratching their heads.
Fawad Razaqzada, a Market Analyst at StoneX Media, notes that the central bank's hawkish stance was already priced in by traders before the announcement. This means that the impact of the rate hike on the AUD/USD exchange rate was minimal.
The US dollar has been firm despite some weak economic data, including job openings and consumer confidence numbers. However, analysts are keeping an eye on upcoming releases such as core PCE (Personal Consumption Expenditures) and nonfarm payrolls, which could have a significant impact on the dollar's strength.
