AUD Falls Despite RBA Rate Hike as US Dollar Remains Strong
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) raised interest rates by 25 basis points and hinted at another potential hike in the fourth quarter. Despite this, the Australian dollar (AUD/USD) continued to fall.
Fawad Razaqzada, a Market Analyst for StoneX Media, explained that the central bank's hawkish stance was already priced into the market. This meant that investors were not surprised by the rate hike and its impact on the AUD/USD exchange rate was minimal.
The U.S. dollar, however, remained strong despite weak job openings and consumer confidence data. Core PCE and nonfarm payrolls are still ahead, which may continue to support the dollar's strength.
