AUD Remains Subdued Amid Hawkish Comments and Geopolitical Tensions
The Australian Dollar (AUD) remained subdued on Tuesday, as hawkish comments from Federal Reserve officials and the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) offset renewed hopes for an end to the Middle East conflict.
The AUD/USD pair traded near 0.7114, failing to gain ground despite improved sentiment in the region. US President Donald Trump's comments on Iran were followed by a productive meeting between Washington and Tehran negotiators, which boosted optimism about a potential deal.
Fed officials, including Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin and Boston Fed Susan Collins, emphasized the need for additional rate increases to combat persistent high inflation. RBA Governor Bullock warned that upside risks to inflation could materialize due to high energy prices, hinting at a September interest rate hike.
